What the extension does not send to Dyslexly

Dyslexly is designed to keep reading activity on your device. The extension:

• Does not send webpage text or document content to Dyslexly's servers unless you use the optional Pro "Make easier" tool on selected text (see below).
• Does not send your locally stored reading statistics to Dyslexly.
• Does not sell personal data or use it for advertising.
• Does not require an account for the free reading controls.

What is stored locally

Your settings (font preferences, spacing, overlay colour, etc.) are stored using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.sync API. This syncs your settings across your devices using your Google account — exactly like Chrome bookmarks. This data is managed by Google and subject to their privacy policy.

Reading stats (pages viewed with Dyslexly active, words spoken by TTS) are stored locally using chrome.storage.local and never leave your device.

Anonymous product telemetry

The extension sends a small number of product events to Dyslexly so we can measure whether onboarding works, understand which optional upgrade route is useful, and investigate removals. These events can contain:

• A randomly-generated installation ID. It is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. If you start a Pro trial, it is used to enforce the seven-day trial and may optionally be associated with an email so you can restore access.
• The extension version number
• An event name such as install, onboarding opened, first meaningful use, upgrade clicked, referral shared, or uninstall
• On uninstall, how long that installation was kept and the extension version

We use your IP address only to determine your country (e.g. "United Kingdom") so we can understand where Dyslexly is being used. The full IP address is never stored. No webpage text, document content, browsing history or website hostname is included in these events.

Optional onboarding answers and email

The extension may ask what brought you to Dyslexly and offer reading tips by email. Answering and providing an email address are optional for the free reading tools.

You can start a 7-day Pro trial without providing an email or card. We store the anonymous installation ID and trial start/end time to provide and limit the trial. If you optionally add an email, we use it to restore the active trial and send the transactional trial email. Tips and offers are sent only if you tick the box. You can unsubscribe at dyslexly.com/unsubscribe.

Tools that contact other services

Some tools work by opening or contacting a third-party service only when you choose to use them. For example, dictionary lookup sends the selected word to DictionaryAPI, grammar checking sends the selected text to LanguageTool, and Translate opens Google Translate. Those services process the submitted word or text under their own privacy policies. Core font, spacing, overlay, line-focus and local text-to-speech controls do not require those services.

Make easier and Explain this (Pro or trial only)

If you use Make easier, Explain this, or AI-backed grammar correction, the extension sends only the text you selected to dyslexly.com. Dyslexly passes that selection to Anthropic to generate the requested result. Dyslexly does not write the selected text or generated result to its database or application logs; Anthropic processes the request under its own applicable service terms and privacy commitments. We store only a daily usage count against your licence, trial email or anonymous trial ID so we can apply a fair usage cap. Listen-aloud, including Pro Clear voice, uses voices already on the device and does not send page text. Free reading tools never send page text.

If you use Suggest a feature, we send your suggestion (and optional email) to our team inbox. We do not publish suggestions.

Licence key validation

If you purchase a Pro licence, the extension sends a single API request to dyslexly.com/api/validate-licence containing only your licence key. No browsing data, personal information, or page content is included. This request is made once on install and then cached for 24 hours.

Website (dyslexly.com)

When you visit dyslexly.com:

• We use Google Analytics 4 to understand traffic and improve the site (anonymous usage statistics).
• Anonymous extension product events may be sent to GA4 with the event name, extension version and country-level metadata — no page content.
• If you make a purchase, your email and payment data are processed by Stripe under their privacy policy.
• Licence emails are stored to send keys and receipts. A Pro-trial email is optional and is used for trial restore and transactional messages. We do not add you to marketing lists without your consent.

Data retention

Licence records are retained for the duration of your subscription plus 90 days for dispute resolution, then deleted.

Children's privacy

Dyslexly can be used in schools and by children without creating a student account. The core reading controls do not send page content, reading settings or local reading statistics to Dyslexly. Optional email and onboarding fields should be submitted by a parent, guardian, teacher or an appropriately aged user who understands what is being provided.
